Friday Eve

As the snow falls - again - we are expecting another 10" today, I am musing about how isolated we are in this part of the country during the winter. We are particularly nestled in our hutches this year; seeing our neighbors only when we pass each other in our cars. In this painting, entitled "Friday Eve", I try to capture the essence of the gathering place looking forward to the time we emerge from our hibernation.

Celebrating the Everyday

I think my favorite source of inspiration is the everyday moment. It has never been a deliberate approach on my part like it probably was for the genius, Edward Hopper, who so brilliantly explored the human experience. For me it has been an accident of sorts. When I look back I realize that I have loved this best - capturing a slice of the everyday, the mundane moments that are common to us all.

Trees have been frequently coated in rime and lacy snow this winter due to our high elevation. This red barn was peeking through the frozen tree tops providing stark contrast. The painting is 20 x 24 acrylic on canvas.

I am a free lance artist working in Pompey, NY a rural suburb of Syracuse. My paintings are characterized by a colorful, impressionistic style and encompass a wide range of subject matter including the figure, still life and landscape. I specialize in sports related artwork as well family and corporate portraiture. My work includes architectural rendering and interior and exterior murals.
